PTG Co-Presidents’ Message and News

Hope to see you all tomorrow at the PTG Meeeting at 9:00. We will have coffee and snacks and kids are always welcome! See the agenda here.

As we noted in our last message, the Thoreau School Adult Social is coming up on Saturday, November 2nd. This is not only a great night, but it is also one of our biggest fundraisers. We will have a silent auction with lots of great items to bid on, and all proceeds go to the PTG so that we can continue to put on wonderful programs for your children. Our 2019-2020 Children’s Programming will kick off on Friday, October 4th when the entire 3rd Grade will have the opportunity to hear from the award winning author of the inspirational “I Wanna” series, Karen Orlaff. She will speak to students about the process of writing and the importance of rewriting to make a story better. She will do writing exercises with the students and answer questions about her books and being an author. This will be the first of almost 20 programs brought to you by the PTG throughout the school year.

Another great way the Thoreau PTG supports students during the school day is through the Thoreau School Garden, Grounds for Learning. Parent volunteers are needed to supervise the kids during lunchtime recess. Please see the description below in the TA and the link for signing up.

Please Donate to the PTG Auction!

On November 2, the Thoreau PTG is holding our annual Auction and Adult Social and we need your help! In order to make this event a success, we are seeking auction donations from the Thoreau community — Do you have a beach house you could offer for a summer weekend? Or a ski house for a winter getaway? How about Patriots/Bruins/Celtics/Red Sox tickets? Or are you an interior designer, contractor, or do you work in another field where you could offer your time and expertise to the highest bidder? If yes, please contact Abby Jenney at abigailjenney@gmail.com. THANK YOU!

Sign Up to Help Out in the Thoreau School Garden, Grounds for Learning

The signup genius to help out in the Thoreau School Garden, Grounds For Learning, is LIVE! We need parent volunteers to open the garden to the students during lunchtime on Wednesdays and Fridays. This entails unlocking the gate, hanging up the flag to let the students know the garden is open, putting out the sandwich board sign at the bottom of the hill near the lower playground, and supervising and engaging students in the garden. You can sign up here.
