Auction: The Thoreau Auction, run by our fundraising committee, occurs at our fall adult social. The specifics change year to year, but in the past families have donated items, such as weekends at second homes and tickets to sporting events, teachers have donated special events for students, and businesses have donated products. No matter how the
auction unfolds, it is always a full of great items!

Book Fair: This major annual fundraiser and community event gives students and their families the chance to purchase new and used books, a percentage of which supports Thoreau’s annual fundraising efforts. Families can also purchase books to donate to the main library or to classrooms through the Wish List, which contains book titles requested
by Thoreau staff. Usually held in October, the Book Fair is open to families one evening for Family Night, and during three school days for classroom visits (parents are also welcome with their children’s classrooms). Both new and used books are sold at the fair. Used books
are donated by Thoreau families one or two weeks prior to the fair, and unsold used books are donated to charity.

Box Tops for Education: Every family can participate in this fund-raiser. Each General Mills product contains a box top coupon, which can be removed and turned in for cash. A collection box/envelope is also located in the Fowler Library so the entire community can participate. This initiative is run by our Box Tops Coordinator.

Cookbook: Looking for the perfect gift for all the foodies in your life? Give the Thoreau Friendship Cookbook! Nothing goes better with the Bruins, Celtics or Patriots like Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings, or a chilly winter day than Lentil Chard Soup. And, when you need that one-pot wonder, Mexican Crockpot Chicken hits the spot. Teacher favorites are also included. Think Stollen, think Swiss and Bacon Dip, think delish! Go to the Thoreau Cookbook order form and purchase a copy of the cookbook for $5 each. Any questions, please email Prow at All proceeds help fund various programs and specials projects at the Thoreau School.

Directory: The Thoreau Directory is a valuable resource for every family. It is published in September and includes student names, addresses, parent/guardian names, email addresses and phone numbers. It also includes room parent names, PTG contacts, a school calendar and district phone numbers. It is a reference you will use many, many times during the year – guaranteed to be dog-eared by June!

Halloween Costume Sale: The Halloween Costume sale is a great way to recycle your child’s old costumes while supporting the PTG. The PTG collects donated old costumes which are in great condition and then resells them to the community.

Mabel’s Labels: The Thoreau School PTG has partnered with Mabel‘s Labels for all your back-to-school label needs! They have the cutest and affordable labels for all of your kids’ clothes, supplies, lunch bags – everything!
Go to and select “Thoreau School (Concord) ” from the list. Best of all, 20% of your order goes right to the PTG! This link can be used all year or you can go to their main site and click on “Support a Fundraiser” and select Thoreau from that list. If you have any questions, contact Megan Holsinger at

Road Race: The annual Thoreau Family Road Race is a 1 mile Fun Run for the kids, along with a 5K for kids and adults. There is face painting, bouncy houses, and food. Come to race or cheer on your friends!

School Pictures: These are the classic school pictures of the children and their classes. The pictures will be taken during the school day in September or October, outside if the weather permits.

Thoreauly Dining/Thoreauly Shopping: Shop and dine and give back to Thoreau! These events are held throughout the year in our local community where businesses generously give a portion of sales/profits back to the PTG.

Yankee Candle: In the fall our fundraising committee hosts a Yankee Candle sale where 40% of the sales comes back to the PTG! For more information go to The Yankee Candle Fundraiser page.
