PTG Co-Presidents’ Message and News

Hope everyone is continuing to hang in there. Thanks to Angel Charles for hosting a Zoom meeting on Tuesday where we continued to discuss planning for next Fall. Look out for guidance on reopening schools in the Fall from DESE on June 15th.

Congratulations to all the 5th graders parents. It must be a terribly bittersweet way to conclude your time at the Thoreau School. We hope you all enjoy the 5th Grade Parade next Tuesday. Thanks to Deb Antonangeli, Jen Perry, Trish Siefer and Mari Alexander for helping to pull that together.

Lastly we do have candidates for Co-President, Secretary and Treasurer for 2020-2021. We will have a very short PTG zoom meeting on Monday, June 15th at 3:00 pm to vote in the new officers . We still desperately need a Vice President and Fundraising Chairs. Please let us know or just join us on the call if you are interested.

Turn in Those Box Tops!

Time to turn in any last clips you have for the classroom contest! The Box Tops collection box has been moved from inside the Thoreau School lobby to a spot outside the school, near the book return box/cart. If you have any physical clips, please drop them either in the collection box at Thoreau or on my porch at 452 Laws Brook Road in West Concord by Monday June 15. Please make sure to put your teacher’s name and child’s name on a slip of paper inside your bag. Contest results to be announced next week. Meanwhile, if you’ve been shopping for groceries at select online stores, you can get automatic credit for any Box Tops products purchased by submitting your electronic receipt to General Mills by email. Click here to learn how and to find a list of participating online stores. Good luck everyone! – Kimber Lynn Drake

Thoreau Cares

Congratulations Thoreau School students, teachers, and families! The recipes and art projects that you made for the Hunger Challenge have raised an amazing $5,004.00 for food programs that support hungry people in the USA and around the world. You should feel very proud of our “Concord Kids Care” team! This is our fifth year participating in a service learning project sponsored by the Students Rebuild organization. Our team has earned a total of $25,750.00 to help families in need. Many thanks to the Thoreau School PTG for funding the purchase of crafts materials, and especially to Julie Lynch, the service learning chair. Thank you, too, to Principal Charles and the Thoreau School teachers for their support, and to the students for all their effort and creativity. – Karen Pettyjohn (retired Thoreau School librarian)
