We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2019-2020 school year. The purpose of the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) is to support faculty, staff, parents, and our students at Thoreau. We hope that all parents are able to give whatever time they can allow to engage with our Thoreau community in a meaningful way. It is through our volunteers that we are able to establish a strong partnership with faculty and staff to directly support our students and school. The partnership is what makes the Thoreau Community such a special place.
In an effort to be GREEN, most PTG communication will come through our website www.thoreauptg.org, and the weekly PTG Newsletter “Thoreau Announcements”. We’re actively updating the site so be sure to visit and explore! To receive the newsletter, simply enter your email under “Get the PTG Newsletter” located on the right hand side of the website. Don’t miss out! These announcements can also be found on our website home page every Thursday. You can also follow us on Facebook at at “Thoreau Elementary School PTG” for reminders and fun!
Speaking of fun, mark your calendars for these upcoming dates:
Tuesday, August 27th from 2:30- 3:15 Thoreau School Open House with an informal All-Grade Playdate directly following in the Thoreau “upper playground”
Wednesday, August 28th at 9:30am in the Thoreau Auditorium: Question and Answer session for all NEW Thoreau families.
Friday, September 6th at 9:00 in the cafeteria: PTG Welcome Back Coffee! We will finalize our annual budget, as well as discuss opportunities to get involved within the PTG.
Sunday, September 8th from 2:00 -4:00 pm: Annual Thoreau School Ice Cream Social! This is our first all school event of the year! Enjoy ice cream, music and reconnecting with friends.
Wednesday, September 11th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm Back to School Night
There is nothing special that needs to be done in order to “join” the PTG. If you are a parent or guardian in the Thoreau School, you are automatically a member! We have opportunities, for working and non-working alike! Attend our meetings, volunteer when/where you can; Become engaged in things that matter most to you and your family; Support the PTG through donations/participation in fundraisers; See the benefits of a strong school community on your child’s education!
We look forward to an amazing school year,
Maribeth Cusick and Danielle Wetzel PTG Co-Presidents
