PTG Co-Presidents’ Message and News
We’d like to start off this week by giving a HUGE thank you to Carol Harris for her tireless work and dedication to get the School Directory ready, out to the printer, and into our hands!!
And wow! What a difference a week makes and what New England weather is all about! We sure hope that you’ve all been able to take advantage of the amazing spring (and summer-like!) weather that we’ve been having this week. It’s also been great weather to do the virtual Turkey Trot – remember to get your pictures in to your teacher once you’ve completed it to ensure your child is part of the Turkey Trot Wall! And a reminder that this weekend is the 5km run/walk/bike/roll/stroll Apple Challenge for the Concord Education Fund.
Our online Gift Basket Auction goes live on Monday! Thank you again to those who have contributed so far and please see the SignUpGenius link below to help us fill those remaining spots. Here is the url for the auction: 32auctions.com/thoreau. You can check out the baskets before we go live on Monday.
Another thank you to those who have contributed to our food drive to support Open Table. Contributions will continue to be accepted through until November 23rd.
Lastly, a reminder that you can help make life easier for yourself (who doesn’t need that these days?!?) while supporting the PTG and Concord Teacakes by ordering your Thanksgiving Pie by Nov 20th at noon.

“Winter is Coming” Food Drive for Open Table
Beginning November 2nd, and continuing through November 23rd, Thoreau Elementary School will be hosting a food drive to benefit OpenTable. Bins will be placed in front of the school to collect donations and our 5th graders will be responsible for organizing and counting the items. The theme is “Winter is Coming” and, based on Open Table’s most in demand items, we are seeking donations from families and staff that fall into the comfort food category. Examples of food we are seeking are: soup, stews, mac and cheese, and hot cocoa.
Box Tops for Education
The list of fundraisers and Thoreau activities affected by COVID may be growing, but we’ve got an old standby that can’t be shut down by social distancing policies. Introducing Box Tops for Education as a throwback to pre-pandemic days!
· It’s completely FREE. No one will hit you up to donate dollars you’re not already spending at the grocery store.
· Not willing to take time to clip Box Tops? There’s an App for that! Download Box Tops For Education in the App Store or Google Play.
· Can’t remember which products earn Box Tops? Simply scan your grocery store receipt (within 14 days of purchase) in the App, and it automatically tallies your earnings.
· But a single Box Top is only worth 10 cents. My meager clips won’t make a difference. Actually, Thoreau has had awesome family participation in the past. Our earnings have reached upwards of $1500!
· The old-fashioned, clipped Box Tops are still valuable too! If you have unexpired clips, send them into school with your student. Mark the grade on the bag, and have your child turn them into his/her teacher. Alternatively, you can mail them/ drop them off to: Caroline Mahoney, 27 Commerford Rd Concord OR Jordan Binder, 36 Old Stow Rd Concord
