Come support your favorite Thoreau teachers! There will be a Joint School Committee Meeting Tuesday, October 2nd at 6:30pm (in executive session from 5:30pm – 6:30pm) at the CCHS library. While there is a full agenda, one of the topics of concern to the Thoreau community is the results of the TELL (Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning) Mass Survey of teachers at the school, district and statewide levels. According to the Massachusetts Department of Education website, nationwide research shows that positive teaching and learning conditions are essential for student success and teacher retention and that educators’ own voices provide critical feedback on whether those conditions exist. To review the Thoreau-specific results on how your teachers feel about the school environment, please check them at http://www.tellmass.org/reports/detailed.php?siteID=M0067-0020. Some results are positive, but several categories addressing issues of teacher morale and school leadership (question 7 series) were very low. We encourage you to attend the meeting to learn more.
