On behalf of the Thoreau Elementary School PTG, we would like to welcome back all of our returning Thoreau families and extend warm greetings to our new families. We hope that you had an enjoyable summer and are getting ready for a great year at Thoreau!
The purpose of the PTG is to support the faculty, staff, parents, and most especially our students at Thoreau. All families are members of the PTG, and our meetings and events are open to everyone to participate in as much as possible.
Here are a few quick points to get you started:
• First, in an effort to become more “Thoreau-ly” GREEN, most of our communication and information will be provided electronically this year. For returning families, that means that our multi-page “packet” (typically distributed at the Open House) will now be found online. Visit the “Community Documents” section of our website: www.thoreauptg.org/forms/ for PTG and other school-related forms. Specifically, make sure you read the Library Volunteer, Art Room Volunteer, Grounds for Learning, Parents At Lunch, and Health Office Volunteer sections. While you are there, explore our updated website. This more dynamic website will be a critical platform through which you will receive communication. A special thank you to John Keilty for his tremendous work over the summer on this project!
• Next, we provide a lot of information via email. If you have provided an email address to the school, you will automatically be enrolled in our distribution. Once the school year gets going, you will receive weekly “Thoreau Announcements” each Thursday, as well as other occasional informational postings. Visit the Announcements section of our website under the tab “Community Documents” to find previous Thoreau Announcements.
• Finally, we will be hosting a Welcome Back Coffee on Friday, September 5th at 9:00am in the Cafeteria. Hear about the many fun, social and educational events going on throughout the year. Please join us, all are welcome. (Young children are of course welcome too!)
As we have stated in years past, we believe that it is of ultimate importance that we do everything we can to enhance the learning environment of our children. It will take all of us working together to ensure that this happens!
We look forward to working with you this year. Please feel free to contact us at any time with questions, concerns or ideas.
