This week’s announcements:

Thoreau News:  From the Library, Virtual Lost & Found, Concord Education Fund

PTG Co-President’s Message and News:

Thank you!!
What an amazing school year it has been! Thank you to the entire community for your support throughout the year.  It is you, the parents, families, teachers and staff who work so hard on behalf of our children that makes Thoreau School such a special place.  The PTG functions because of all of you; every contribution is valued and significant.  Thank you and we look forward to another great year next year!

In this last Thoreau Announcement of the school year, we’d also like to specifically give a shout out to those “behind the scenes” who are responsible for keeping the community informed all year long: Caroline Myler who single-handedly compiled and published the Thoreau Announcements every week (congrats on the last one!), Ali Baty for serving as an amazing liaison to all the room parents for grade specific communications, PTG Webmaster Laura Koh who keeps our webpage running smoothly and up to date and thankfully will continue to do so next year, and Janet Walker for keeping the Thoreau Elementary School Facebook community engaged with fun and creative posts! Thank you!!

Lastly, we’d like to thank a person who “just gets stuff done”.  Outgoing PTG Vice President Alexa Anderson will be greatly missed at Thoreau next year.  Willard is lucky to have you!!

Thank you to all and have a wonderful summer!

-Kathleen and Deb

Thank you to Deb Antonangeli
I would like to thank Deb Antonangeli, our out-going Co-President, for her service to the PTG Board. Deb will continue to be part of the the Thoreau community, her name already populates the PTG sign up genius(!), but I wanted to publicly say thank you for her commitment to the Thoreau PTG Board as Vice-President, and for the last two years as Co-President. Her dedication, experience, wealth of knowledge, and support are greatly appreciated! Thank you for all you give to Thoreau!  -Kathleen

Open PTG Board, Event and Committee Chair Positions for 2018-2019:

  • Fundraising trainees (2)– Grab and friend and shadow our two amazing fundraising co-chairs to learn the ropes
  • Children’s Programming (1)– Our current chairs are not going anywhere (yet), but would love assistance coordinating one or two programs for next year.
  • Community Service Learning Chair (2)-Provide support to teacher-led community service projects in classrooms, school-wide community efforts, and the 5th Grade community service event.
  • Cake Walk Committee (2+) – This committee just needs two to three more people to help!
  • Geography Quest (1)-The Chair of this committee would love a helping hand!
  • Hobby Fair (2)– Attention all 3rd and 4th Grade parents! Hobby Fair 2019 is seeking two rising 4th and/or 5th grade parent volunteers to coordinate this event held in January or early February.  The past chair wrote up an easy to follow “how to” playbook including dates, times, contacts and permission slips! Plug and play! We just need people to take the lead and make it happen!
  • Spirit Wear (1) – T-shirts, sweatshirts, magnets, oh my! Help us streamline Thoreau gear purchasing so we can wear our school name with pride!

FROM THE LIBRARY: Yee-Haw! Thank you for helping us to round up those library books!  At the end of the day Friday, June 15, we had only 54 books still checked out to students with one more week to bring in the stragglers. Bills were sent out yesterday, but we would still prefer to have the books, if you are able to corral them for us.  Books not taken care of this year will remain on student accounts in the fall. Thank you! Karen and Kristin

End of Year Thank You from the Library!
The community at Thoreau has provided such wonderful support to the library this year, through both volunteering and donations.  Throughout the year, the Gift Book Program has been acknowledging donations. As the year comes to a close, we would like to also thank families who have independently donated books throughout the school year: Bennani, Cadwell, Collins, DeSimone, deBlonk, Dillon, Kocher, Koh, Libby, O’Brien, Overall, Pomeroy and Wetzel.  We appreciate your support. Thank you, Karen and Kristin

LOST AND FOUND – LAST CALL: Last chance to claim your stuff, folks! Some things have been claimed, but new ones have turned up as kids ditch their sweatshirts on the playground during recess and forget to bring them back inside again.  All items are laid out on a table at the end of the main hallway near the cafeteria.  The on-line photo gallery has been updated. To see what was on the table as of the end of the day Wednesday, click here to view it.  Everything left will be donated at the end of the school year.  Don’t wait until fall to realize that a coat or sweatshirt is missing – check it out now while you can still get it back!  Good luck. – Kimber Lynn Drake

DON’T FORGET TO THANK YOU TEACHERS!: Like to show your appreciation to a teacher or staff member who has made a positive impact on your child’s education? Consider making a donation to the Concord Education Fund (CEF) in their honor and CEF will send them a personalized note conveying your appreciation and generosity. Click here to learn more http://concordedfund.org/teacher-appreciation/ and thank you for supporting teachers who are committed to offering Concord-Carlisle students an extraordinary educational experience.
