BUS DRIVER & CROSSING GUARD BREAKFAST
The Bus Driver and Crossing Guard Breakfast will be held June 1. The drivers and crossing guards look forward to this event each year. One of the most appreciated things we give them is cards from the kids. Would you please ask your child to draw a picture or write a few words of thanks? These cards need to be done at home and brought into the school office by Wed. May 30. There is a folder in the PTG milk crate labeled “BUS BREAKFAST” where parents can drop off cards, or Maria and Donna can help the kids get the cards to the right place. We will sort them by driver so it might be helpful if parents know their child’s driver or bus number and can note that in pencil somewhere on the card. Ann is the crossing guard at Main Street and Cindy is the guard close to the school. Thank you!

DONATIONS NEEDED for 5th GRADE DAY OF SERVICE
On Friday June 8th, our 5th graders will be working on charitable projects for HGRM (Home Goods Resource Management), Paws 4 Freedom (Military K9 care packages), Open Table & Children’s Hospital. In preparation for that day, we are collecting:
- Eating Utensils: Forks, spoons, knives (used & new). Clean out your drawer and grab those odds and ends, mixed and unmatched utensils. We will package them into “starter kitchen kits” for a family in need. IMPORTANT – Parents, please make this donation yourselves – do not send it in with your child.
- Dog Toys and Treats: Canine grooming supplies, collapsible bowls, chews, etc. Receive 20% off donations you purchase at West Concord PetSource. Just mention “Paws 4 Freedom”.

Please mark your calenders for the following music performances:
- 5th Grade Arts Night
Wednesday, May 30. Doors will open at 6:30pm for parents to view their child’s art work displayed around the school. At 7:15 the 5th grade band, orchestra and chorus will perform. Flyers will be sent home with all the information.
- 3rd Grade Recorder Concert
Friday, June 8, 9:15am in the auditorium. 3rd grade parents and friends are invited to this concert.
BOXTOPS IS BOOMING!
Thanks to Kimber Lynn Drake (mom of Christina in McKenna’s K class) we now have $500 more coming to Thoreau! She entered a Boxtops contest and WON a 5000 Boxtops bonus for our school! That is FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS! Thank you SO MUCH Mrs. Drake. Please continue to donate your Boxtops to the box inside the door. Every single one counts.

STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON
It’s that time of year when we want to celebrate our wonderful staff at Thoreau School with a special luncheon on Tuesday, June 12 at 12:30pm, graciously hosted by the Siefer Family. We need your help to put on a fabulous luncheon and to make sure that everyone has a good time with plenty to eat and drink. Most importantly, we want our staff to know how much they are appreciated! FROM THE OFFICE RE: PARKING
The “back parking lot” is for staff only in the morning until 12:00pm. After 12:00, there may be some spots available since some staff leave then. The “parking area in front of the school” is for staff only, and there are 3 spots by the cafeteria that are designated only for student drop off and student pick up. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Summer Basketball Clinic
Patriot Boys Basketball Clinic for boys entering grades 3-8 at CCHS from 9:00 – 3:00. Two sessions: June 25 – 29 and July 30 – August 3 for $250/weekly. The camp is run by David Cohen, Head Coach at CCHS, the CCHS coaching staff, and members of the Varsity Basketball Team. Youth Track Clinic
Does your child like to run? Is he or she fast? Can he or she throw or jump far? The Recreation Department offers a short, fun, experiential, introductory youth track clinic for children born 1998-2003. Events include four different individual running distances based on one’s age group, the standing broad jump, a softball throw, and the 4 x 100 relay. The clinic includes a scrimmage and concludes with a meet with surrounding towns. Held on three Fridays, 3:45 – 5:15, at the Emerson Playground track, with the scrimmage on Tues. June 5 and the meet in the evening of Thursday, June 14 at Nashoba Reg. HS. Starts Friday, May 25. Register in person at the Hunt Gym or by calling 369-6460.
Willard School Carnival is Coming!
Sunday, June 3, 12:00 – 4:00pm. A day of family fun for all! The Willard Carnival has a little something for everyone — students, parents and friends of all ages are welcome to join this day of fun. Held on the grounds of Willard School, the Carnival features games, crafts, food, music, entertainment, raffle prizes and more. The ever popular Cake Walk and Silent Auction will also bring excitement to the day with a chance to bid on a ski house in Vail, sports memorabilia and other exciting packages. 5th Annual PMC Kids Ride Concord Registration Open Now.
Join the Fight to Conquer Cancer. The PMC Concord Kids Ride will take place on Sunday, June 10, 8:30-noon at Middlesex School in Concord. This is the 5th year of the ride and we hope to break a record with at least 500 kids riding. Kids ages 5-15 from Concord, Carlisle, Sudbury, Acton, and Lincoln are encouraged to sign up to ride for 1, 5, 10 or 15 miles. Ride to raise money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Kids under the age of 5 can take part in the Kids Junior Ride as well, so bring the whole family. Concord Conservatory of Music Summer Workshop
This two-week program is a fun opportunity for kids who are new to music to study two instruments (one each week), as well as sing, drum, and learn musical fundamentals. Kids will rock the foundations of musical theory in “Musician’s Toolbox”, a fun hands-on segment that explores areas that integrate mind, body and fun. Workshop runs July 9-20 (Monday – Friday). 9:00 am – 12:15 pm, Ages 5-10 yrs. Space is limited, so please register soon!
