Looking for volunteers to help out with Thoreau’s Innovation Lab Kick Off on Friday December 8, 2017.
The kick off will take place in our library. Several STEAM challenges will be set up. All classes from each grade level will come in at the same time. The Kick Off event will run all day. We are looking for volunteers to help out for either a 2 hour, ½ day, or full day shift.

More information to come on how to volunteer.
TURKEY TROT: On Wednesday November 22nd, Thoreau School will host its 28th annual Turkey Trot! This event is a beloved, non-competitive 1 mile fun run, which begins in the gym and ends with the students chasing “Tom the Turkey” through the Thoreau neighborhood. We need parent volunteers to direct students and ensure their safety. Volunteers will meet in the cafeteria at 11:00 and line the course from 11:30am-12:00pm. Click here to sign up.
We encourage all parents, family, friends, and neighbors to line the course and cheer on our students. Bring your cow bells and noise makers! Click here for the Race Route!
LOST AND FOUND: Lost and Found to be Donated Next Week
Are you missing a pair of Kamik waterproof boots? Or a pink flowered bicycle helmet? That pumpkin hat from Halloween? How about that “Real Madrid” sweatshirt? Come and get it before it disappears forever! These and all the other items in the lost and found will be donated to charity at Thanksgiving, so please come and claim your stuff by Wednesday November 22. The “virtual lost and found” photo gallery has been updated with any new items added up to mid-day yesterday – click here to view the gallery. Most of us assume we are not missing anything, but are you sure? Click now to check it out – it costs you nothing to click and losing that North Face or Colombia fleece costs way more. The school opens shortly after 6am weekday mornings and is typically open past 5pm if you want to swing by before or after work to collect your items. Everything is laid out at the end of the main hallway near the cafeteria. Good luck! – Kimber Lynn Drake

CONCORD COOLER: Get hundreds of dollars in energy-saving rebates and help our town cut carbon emissions, with Cooler Concord: a program run by the Comprehensive Sustainable Energy Committee (CSEC) that’s committed to helping residents save money and reduce carbon emissions.
Last February at CCHS, Cooler Concord kicked off a huge push on awareness and savings right here in our Town with The Cooler Concord Fair. A great many Concordians got on board, committing to save 700,000 lbs of CO2 annually. Bravo!
Now here’s how we keep this going: check out www.coolerconcord.org — your local hub of information on the best ways to save energy. It’s up-to-date, you can ask questions, and get advice from local experts. And, there are great rebates…literally hundreds to thousands of dollars in savings… on heating, weatherization, Energy-Star appliances, programmable thermostats, light bulbs, solar and more. Why not start with a free home energy audit so you can get professional advice on the best way for your family to make energy and cost savings? Your auditor will give you free LED bulbs too!
But don’t delay…rebates are only available until June 2018, while funds last.
And remember, it’s always cool to cut carbon! www.coolerconcord.org

COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE GROUP AT MGH: MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston is recruiting children who are (or are soon turning) 8 or 10 years old to participate in a research study funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This is a longitudinal study that follows children over a period of 3 consecutive years. Our goal is to improve understanding of learning in children. The study consists of 1 in-person visit (about 2.5 hours) per year for 3 years (weekdays/weekends). During this visit, children play several games on the computer and complete several language/memory tasks. The lab visit includes safe and noninvasive EEG recording. The day after the visit, kids complete a quick follow-up task from a home/library computer. Payment is $60 per year. We provide free all day parking at the Navy Yard. Please email us at email@example.com or call us at (617) 643-4821 if you are interested or if you have any questions.
