After several weeks of facing a budget gap, the School Committees and Finance Committee have come to agreement on recommended FY19 budgets for both CPS and CCHS.
- On March 1st, the Finance Committee revised its guidelines upward, closer to the School Committees’ recommended budgets.
- This past Tuesday, March 21, the School Committees adjusted their recommended budgets to close the remainder of the gaps.
The new recommended budgets are as follows:
Concord Public Schools: $38,246,896 (3.9% operating increase)
Concord-Carlisle Regional School District: $33,749,420 (3.78% operating increase*)
*Equates to a 7.55% increase in cost to Concord residents due to an enrollment shift
Reductions to meet the guidelines included newly projected revenue, savings and one central administrative position. Meeting the Finance Committee guidelines means that the potential impacts of the former gap (i.e. Elementary Spanish, Field Trips, Teaching and Tutor Staff, a School Psychologist, etc.) are no longer at risk.
In addition, thanks to adjustments to absorb the increased costs faced this year, the Concord School Committee does not plan to request the slated supplemental appropriation for the current fiscal year. Many thanks to our administrators and staff who have made this possible.
Thank you to all who have come to coffees or hearings already to learn about the budgets and express your views. And please – stay involved! It’s important to attend Town Meeting and Vote!! Town Meeting begins April 9 at 7:00.
The School Committees will still be holding Community Coffees each week leading up to Town Meeting. Please join us to learn more about the budgets, recommended capital expenditures, or any other school-related topics of interest:
- Monday 3/26, 9:30-11; Thoreau cafeteria
- Thursday 4/5, 6-7:30pm; Sanborn cafeteria
We hope to see you at any of these events and look forward to hearing from you.
