School Psychologist

Dear Thoreau Families,

As you all know Mary Schaefer has announced her retirement at the end of the school year. We have been so fortunate to have had Mary in her position as school psychologist for so long! Her experience and knowledge will never be matched! While saying good-bye (or so long!) is never easy, this change is bittersweet. Due to some reorganization in the special education department, we are thrilled to announce that Ms. Kate Jesman will be transferring from the preschool team to Thoreau beginning September 2012.

Kate received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Rochester and her MA/CAGS in School Psychology from Tufts University. Many of you may know Kate as she has been in Concord for the better part of a decade. Kate began in Concord as a school psychology intern at CMS in 2004. After leaving Concord and spending a few years in the Lynnfield Public Schools, Kate returned to CMS as the school psychologist when Dr. Barbara Miller retired in 2007. After 2 years at the split between the Middle School and preschool, Kate joined the preschool team as the .5 school psychologist.

Kate lives in Framingham with her husband and preschool son Charlie and toddler son Jack. She is excited to work at the elementary level and looks forward to joining the Thoreau staff in the fall.  We are thrilled that Kate is ready to come back full time and join the Thoreau team! We look forward to her arrival in September!

Sincerely,
