PTG Co-Presidents’ Message and News
We hope that everyone had a wonderful extended Labor Day weekend, and that you are all getting into the groove and routine of being back in school. Stick with us, we have a lot to share with you!
Picture Day is coming up fast! It is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 15th. I know this may seem so soon since our ones for the 2020-2021 school year were just done in May, but we are trying to get back on our regular schedule as much as possible this year. email@example.com
Remember to save the date for two upcoming school-wide events! First up is one of our most popular events of the year – our Ice Cream Social on Sunday, September 19th from 2-4. And then on Saturday, September 25th we will have our first fundraiser of the year: Back-to-School Outdoor Movie Night! Stay tuned for more details on that, including the movie that will be featured.
Out of respect for Yom Kippur, the K/1 Coffee is being rescheduled to Thursday, September 23rd. This will be an outdoor event held at the home of one of our fellow Thoreau families. As this weekly newsletter is available to anyone that searches the Thoreau PTG website, the name of the family and their address will be sent in a separate email through Room Parents and Mrs. Charles.
It is the time of year to update your information and to be sure you are included in our School Directory! When you are in Aspen doing the daily COVID Screener, make sure that:
- You have updated all of your information for each child
- Make sure that the field called “Use Student/Family Info in PTG Directory is marked “YES”
- Email Evy (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Erin (email@example.com) with your changes by September 15th
COVID TESTING: If you haven’t yet consented to have your child/children participate in the weekly COVID testing program, please consider doing so. Surveillance testing is a HUGE piece of the COVID puzzle to help keep everyone safe and the district has made tremendous strides to minimize the time that students may miss from in-person learning if there is a positive result. The link to sign up your child/children is included here:
We are looking for 4-5 parents to join the Thoreau School Advisory Council (SAC). The Thoreau SAC is responsible for the stewardship of the school community. This council is comprised of both parents and teachers in addition to the school principal. Parents on the Council serve for two years. The main responsibilities of the SAC are to ensure the successful completion of the School Improvement Plan and to serve as an advisory board to the school principal. The SAC is another way for parents in the school community to have a voice with representatives of the school district—namely the school principal. All interested parents should contact the two PTG Co-Presidents, Evy Alloway and Erin Sahacic (firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com). Erin is currently on the SAC and is a great resource for those that have any questions. If there are more than five people interested in the position, the PTG will hold an election in accordance with the policy of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, in which the entire Thoreau parent community can vote. For more information on the role of School Councils click here.
