Thoreau Library Gift Book Program
Thoreau librarians Karen Pettyjohn and Cathy Collins, and PTG Gift Book Coordinator Eileen Robichaud invite you to participate in the Gift Book Program. Through this program, families can purchase books in honor of a student or teacher and donate them to the school library.  This is a wonderful time of the year to consider participating in the program.

This is how it works: 1) Parents can select a book from the Gift Book Box in the library and write a check for the cover price to the PTG. 2) The book will have a bookplate with the name of the donor and honoree. The book will be shown to the honoree’s class, and the honoree will be the first person allowed to check out the book. 3)  Cathy Collins will keep an updated spreadsheet of books available for donation. 4) If parents would like to donate a special book NOT from the box, they should check with the librarians to ensure the library doesn’t own the book already.

The Gift Book Program is a wonderful and easy way to provide a special gift to the school during this season of giving. It also enables your child to stay connected to the school for years to come. Questions?  Speak with the librarians or contact Eileen Robichaud at ehrobichaud@gmail.com.

Announcing the Cooler Concord Fair
Have you always wanted to save energy, but haven’t had the time to figure it all out and get it done? Help is on the way! Concord’s Sustainable Energy Committee (CSEC), in collaboration with the Town, the Schools and the Light Plant, is pleased to announce the “Cooler Concord” Fair to be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 from 10- 4 at CCHS. The Fair will be a one-stop shopping opportunity for busy families to learn about simple and significant ways to save both energy and money. Attendees will be able to talk with local experts about such topics as solar power, hybrid and electric cars, programmable thermostats, weatherization, highly efficient heating systems and the latest in energy-efficient lighting. The town will be prepared with strong financial incentives to make it easy to move forward. There will be giveaways, lots of food, and engaging activities for kids of all ages. CCHS Environmental Science, Photo and Film students are creating informative exhibits; students from Alcott, Thoreau, Willard and CMS will have their own interesting displays; and the CCHS Green Team is leading the way on event promotion.

Save the Date: This will be a “not-to-miss” event for Concord families, so mark your calendar and we’ll see you there!

Call for Volunteers: Thank you to the many parents, teachers and students that are already helping! We have many more opportunities for volunteers. If you have a little time to help us put together an awesome Fair we’d love to hear from you! Please contact Jill Appel at jill.appel@comcast.net or (978)371-7270 to learn how you can plug in!

Call for Car Seat Donation:
Hello,
My name is Abbie Owen, I’m an alumna of Thoreau school currently studying physical therapy at Northeastern University. I am a senior in the program and working on my senior project, or capstone, and my project is to visit Ecuador in February with a small group of students and faculty. We will be going to an orphanage for children with disabilities to provide physical therapy and set up assistive devices. We have already received generous donations of one infant and one toddler car seat, but we are still in need of one more toddler car seat. If you have a toddler car seat that you’d like to donate, please contact me at 978-505-3300, or  owen.ab@husky.neu.edu. We need the car seat by the end of December, and I am available on weekends to pick it up. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you!
Abbie Owen
