Town Meeting Info and Update on Teacher Awards

Hope you had a wonderful April Vacation! Below is some information on Town Meeting that we were asked to pass along.

TOWN MEETING – MONDAY, 4/22

Concord citizens are encouraged to attend 2013 Town Meeting on Monday, April 22 beginning at 7:00 PM when all school-related articles (#7 through #15) are scheduled to be discussed and voted.  For background information, see:  http://www.concordma.gov/Pages/ConcordMA_BOS/Town_Mtg_2013_Hearing_Presentations/index.  It will likely be a long evening, but important to participate in all discussions and voting.  Parking will be tight given the construction at CCHS.  Attendees should enter the CCHS parking lot via the Walden Street entrance only.   On-site parking is limited. Carpooling is encouraged. Parking for people with disabilities is available at the flagpole circle at the high school.  In the event that the parking lots at the high school are full, attendees will be directed to Alcott School first and, once Alcott is full, then the Concord District Court. Shuttle buses will be available to bring residents to and from the satellite parking. Childcare will be provided at the high school for children 2 ½ and older. The Concord Recreation Department is offering the service at a cost of $5 per child per hour or $25 for two or more children for the evening. In order to guarantee a space, reservations should be made in advance by calling the Concord Recreation Department at 978-369-6460.

Teacher Awards Update

After receiving feedback from both staff and parents we have decided not to hold the PTG Teacher Awards. We have a new idea that is simple and easy, and is a combination of suggestions received from parents at the last two PTG meetings. Teacher Appreciation Week (beginning 5/6) and Day (5/7) is coming up, and the one thing that teachers love to receive is notes of appreciation from both kids and parents. If you and your child would like to participate, feel free to use the forms we will have up on the PTG website beginning 4/25. One will be for kids, and the other for parents. Kids can turn their notes/pictures in to teachers anytime the week of May 6th, and parents can email theirs. The purpose of the awards was to show appreciation for those teachers that go about doing their jobs quietly each day, many going above and beyond, changing our kid’s lives in the process. We hope that in place of the awards, these notes from parents and kids will show them how much we appreciate them. Feel free to write notes to your current teacher, a past teacher, Specials teachers (Library, Art, Music & Gym), any specialist your child may work with, or any staff member (Mrs. Levesque, Debbie, Mario etc.)…We are hoping that each Thoreau staff member that interacts with our children each day receives a note. If you have any questions, feel free to conctact us.

Thanks,

Jen and Shelagh
